Come Home | Modern Hymnody Project (c) 2026

Gently the Savior is calling your name. "Come Home" is a modern piano ballad of invitation, with the lyrics on screen for worship and quiet reflection. It is not too late. This song grew out of the beloved invitation hymn "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling" by Will L. Thompson. It follows the story of the prodigal son. The Father watches the road. He runs to meet us. He bore our shame and took our place. The light in the window still burns. Perhaps you are weary. Perhaps you have wandered far. This song is for you, and for anyone you love who needs to hear these words today. There at the door He stands watching the road, longing to welcome you in. Come home, (come home) it's not too late, the light in the window still burns. Weary and wandering, hear how He calls: My child, come home, come home. Why do we wait while His mercy is near, mercy enough for us all? Why do we wander so far from His love, deaf to the sound of His call? Days slip away like a mist in the morning, the hours are not ours to keep. Evening is coming, the shadows grow long; now is the day to come home. While we were still so far away, He ran to meet us on the road. He bore our shame, He took our place, and lifted every load. O what a love He has promised to give, grace for the worst of our sin! Though we have strayed, He has pardon and peace, open arms waiting for you. Come home, come home.
