🜁 Virtual Vibes // De Wanna Wanga // Final Sunrise // Transmission 06
Final contact.
Another APOG in the books. Another sunrise at WANGA.
Every year, as the festival comes to a close, Unknown Player (Rob) takes us into the final sunrise. I had to swap memory cards, so I missed the first 20 minutes, but here's the final hour captured in full 360°.
The story behind this one belongs to Rob:
--------------
"How does one become the king. Answer: It don't work like that... The King Stays the King.
Since APOG Year 1, I've played the final track. The past few we've made it official scheduling me to close.
That first year was pure magic. I stumbled into an early-morning session under the armachillo with a single speaker, a pair of decks, and the right people awake at the right time. Sitting at a coffee table.(Instigated by the sound guy).
Then he fired up the generator, the Meadow Stage came online, and somehow those last songs became the official ending of APOG. Providing the soundtrack for people as they woke up and began their pack.
I never planned for it to become a tradition in that moment and it was the right music at the right time.
Every year after that I'd ask Evan for "just a little more." The last year at the old property I told him, "We may never be here again, let me run it till the wheels fall off." He gave me 15 extra minutes.
What I didn't realize was that this would become the closing bell of APOG. Every year ends with the same hand on my shoulder telling me it's finally time. The WANGA crew has even discussed tying Evan to a tree so it doesn't have to stop.
The goal has always been simple: one final journey through everything APOG is. House. Bass. Emotion. A little romance. Then time for bed.
I don't over-plan. I collect music all year, build a giant crate, stay present, and follow the crowd. This year I slipped in a handful of my own productions too. APOG has given me more confidence in my music and place as a DJ than anything else ever could.
I started just djing and jumped in to help tear down the first couple years. Then I helped create stages with my closest friends. Now I get to help build APOG itself with Evan, Brad, Skye, and an incredible team. WE ARE ALL VOLUNTEERS.
TRENCH CREW is my hand picked team that ain't afraid to get DIRTY. We sweat, bust our ass, bleed and work all night sometimes.
Thank you to every volunteer, every admin, every artist, every builder, every single person who gives their time to create this place.
Todd, thank you for capturing it.
Waters—thank you for believing in me. Music may consume me sometimes, but you'll always come first.
See you next sunrise, if not sooner at the many events I curate year round.
❤ Rob
