In this video, we explore the beginnings of the “Trade Union Debate”, a conflict amongst the upper leadership of the Communist Party which broke out from approximately 1919 to 1921. The debate pitted Lenin and Trotsky against each other, ripping the leadership near completely in half, and sparking an immense “party crisis” the likes of which the Bolsheviks had never before seen. ------------------------------------------------------------ Timestamps – 0:00:00 - Introduction – 0:01:14 - The State of the Workers’ State (Background) – 0:01:14 - Trade Unions – 0:02:43 - Mikhail Tomsky – 0:05:45 - War Communism – 0:07:33 - Factional Background – 0:08:54 - Political Compass – 0:14:52 - The Fight After Sverdlov’s Funeral – 0:17:35 - Birth of the Workers’ Opposition – 0:21:12 - The Orgburo Dispute – 0:22:45 - Militarization of Labor – 0:27:28 - Opposition to Militarization – 0:32:01 - Labor Armies at Work – 0:34:43 - Trotsky’s Victorious Congress – 0:39:38 - Railroad Dictator – 0:46:00 - Lenin Switches Sides – 0:49:46 - Breaking Point (Nov. 1920) – 0:54:06 - Tsektran Congress (Dec. 1920) – 0:57:12 - War Declared (8th Congress of Soviets) ------------------------------------------------------------ Links: Discord:   / discord   Twitter: https://x.com/nojrants Instagram:   / nojraps   Patreon:   / nojrants   Kofi: https://ko-fi.com/nojrants Music Channel:    / @nojraps   Other links: linktr.ee/nojraps ------------------------------------------------------------ #history #sovietunion
