The organ at Cathedral Church of All Saints is one of the most significant pipe organs in Atlantic Canada. It was originally built in 1910 by Casavant Frères of Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, when the cathedral itself was completed. The instrument was substantially rebuilt in 1961 by the British firm Hill, Norman & Beard, giving it a more English cathedral-organ character rather than a purely French-Canadian Casavant sound. Further modernization occurred in 2011 when a new movable Casavant console was installed with MIDI capability, recording/playback functions, and extensive combination memory. Current specifications: 4 manuals (keyboards) and pedal 75 speaking stops Approximately 5,000 pipes Second-largest pipe organ in the Maritime provinces Designed for both Anglican liturgical accompaniment and major recital performances. The 1961 rebuild added and modified several divisions. Notable additions included: A Positiv division placed in the chancel over the Bishop's throne New Pedal stops A State Trompette Erzähler and Erzähler Celeste stops in the Choir division Revoiced principal choruses and Swell reeds to emulate the sound of a traditional English cathedral organ.
