This is the first of a series of videos in which I’ll show you every aspect of Brazilian life: from day-to-day places and activities to breathtaking destinations! We’ll start by visiting my home city, Sorocaba, a city near São Paulo which has a lot of history!
Sorocaba, located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, has a rich history that dates back to the early 16th century. The area was initially inhabited by Indigenous peoples before being explored by Europeans.
In 1654, Sorocaba was officially founded as a settlement, originally serving as a stopping point for gold prospectors heading to the interior of São Paulo. Its strategic location along the Sorocaba River made it an important hub for trade and transportation.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, Sorocaba grew as a center for agriculture and commerce, particularly with the cultivation of coffee, which became a significant driver of the local economy. The arrival of the railroad in the late 19th century further accelerated its development, connecting Sorocaba to major cities and boosting industrial growth.
Today, Sorocaba is known for its vibrant culture, historic architecture, and beautiful parks, blending its rich heritage with modern urban life. It remains an important industrial and economic center in the region.
