In this video we will see how to make Empty Salna Recipe in Tamil. This Empty Salna is a flavorful gravy that’s commonly served with parotta, chapati, or biryani in Tamil Nadu. Though it’s called "empty," there’s nothing missing in taste! It’s packed with the rich aroma of spices, roasted coconut, and perfectly sautéed onions and tomatoes, making it a perfect side dish for any South Indian meal.
This recipe is especially popular in roadside shops and Kaiyendhi Bhavans, where it’s served as a generous and spicy gravy that adds life to plain parotta. What makes Empty Salna unique is its ability to deliver layers of taste without the use of meat or vegetables. The masala base gives a flavor and thick consistency that’s absolutely addictive. It’s easy to make and uses simple pantry ingredients, yet the final result is a mouthwatering gravy that pairs well with almost anything – idiyappam, dosa, kuska, or even plain rice.
