They Gave the Human the Broken Ladder and Lowest Hull—Her Chief Rigger Climbed to Work Beside Him

Caleb Norwood has worked the belly of the Quiet Wheel for nine years, reading rigging lines by eye while the guild refuses him rank. When the king line of the belly hangs six fingers past its measure and the gauges still call it true, his word stands against the ship's own certificate. By the law of the line, a disputed call can only be settled on the line itself — by the highest rigger on the watch, in the heart of the lane. A story about the measure you can put a hand on, the price of a secret, and the name a line carries when it is finally settled. Subscribe for more human-alien stories from the edge of the fleet.
