What happens when a classical composer listens to Radiohead’s Kid A? In this episode of Record Room, I’m joined by composer and conductor Julián Fueyo to react to one of the most influential albums of the 2000s. We listen to Kid A together and talk through the details that stand out to him as a classically trained composer, from its electronic textures and rhythmic patterns to the dynamics, arrangements, instrumentation, and moments that make the album so immersive. It’s part reaction, part music conversation, and part me getting to hear one of my favorite records through someone else’s ears. Julián Fueyo is a Mexican composer and conductor who studied at the Yale School of Music, the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Interlochen Arts Academy. He is a recipient of the BMI Student Composer Award and a two-time ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer Award winner.
