“Architecture as a Shortcut to Equality” | THE THINKERS: Alejandro Aravena

Architect Alejandro Aravena has spent his career confronting the urgent challenges of our built environment. From tackling global inequality to rethinking how cities can function, he believes architecture isn’t just about buildings—it’s about purpose, participation, and social change. In this conversation, Aravena explains the catch-22 of modern construction, the power of strategic design, and how communities themselves can become part of the solution. He also reflects on the parallels between urban planning and the social dynamics of violence and inequality, offering insights into how we might rethink the spaces we live in and the societies we build.
