univac (with SynthLab), soundpedro : Tin, San Pedro, CA, 6/8/26. Set 1.

SynthLab, the super-group art-nerd collective of solo audiovisual artists I’m privileged to be a part of, were back again for the 10th annual amazing experimental audiovisual experience that is soundpedro! SynthLab has performed soundpedro since the beginning, and this year we returned to where we started 10 years ago, in the Ceramics Classroom, Building F. Featuring: univac Putney Swope @putneyswopemusic Justin Scheid / Cannibalistic Caterpillar @jcscheid Visuals by Brian Akenoh @brianakenoh and univac This is the first set of two. I wrangled my ~120 year-old mechanized cello, playing accompaniment on a standard cello bow to the attached mechanical bows (mBows—child-sized violin bows with motors and belts liberated from dead printers. The stretched belts' direction and speed on the cello strings—one "plucking", one "bowing"—are controlled by a light-sensitive motor-control box), along with “Dad’s Tools”—an instrument I built out of a few of my dad’s tools from Minnesota (a large metal scraper, a screw-band clamp ring, lamp springs and lamp yoke) and “Snare” a snare-drum spring mounted to a lovely chunk of pine, and occasionally sampled and looped back in with the excellent Count to 5 looper pedal. Visuals were made by audience members for us! by playing with translucent objects inside a video feedback system run on a uniMac—my self-contained audio-reactive feedback visualizer built from a repurposed vintage iMac, along with a few other uniMacs around to for people to interact with. You can see the uniMac in action at 17:37. linktr.ee/univac Show posting below: soundpedro Tin JUNE 6, 7-10 PM Installations, Performances, Roaming Presentations, & DecaDENSE gallery show ANGELS GATE CULTURAL CENTER 3601 S.
