Preparing for Winter in the Zagros Nomadic Family Harvests Their Garden & Stores Dry Grass

In this video, you’ll join an Iranian nomad family as they work nonstop in the wild Zagros Mountains to prepare food for their sheep before the freezing winter arrives. Hamed and Manijeh return to their cold‑season home with their children — Ali, Momen, and Michael — and begin their hardest job of the year: removing the massive pile of dry grass stored on top of their traditional shelter since spring. The grass is covered in thick dust, making the work extremely exhausting. After bringing it down, the family uses a donkey to crush and prepare the hay, packing it into large sacks for easier transportation and winter storage. Their day continues in the garden, harvesting fresh tomatoes, pumpkins, and other high‑quality crops grown in the mountains. When the sun sets, they load the hay, tools, and vegetables onto their truck and begin the long journey home. By the time they arrive, it is completely dark — but the family is happy, knowing they have secured valuable food and supplies for their sheep and their own survival.
