Celebrating Losar away from home feels strange at first. You think about how it “should” look the gonpa visits, the food, the traditions you grew up with. But this year, Losar found me by the sea. With hotpot, new friendships, and conversations we could barely translate. We were strangers. Different languages. Different histories. Yet there was mutual respect and a shared warmth that didn’t need translation. It wasn’t the Losar I knew. But maybe it was the one I needed It was a reminder that home isn’t always a place.
