Wars often end when the guns fall silent, but their impact on children can last for generations. After World War II, thousands of children were left orphaned across Europe. In response, humanitarian Hermann Gmeiner founded the first SOS Children’s Village in Austria in 1949, creating a family-based model of care for children who had lost parental support. Today, this model operates in more than 130 countries, including Pakistan.
