Transforming Mental Health Through Data | MHDP-A Phase 1 Final Convening 2026

The Mental Health Data Prize–Africa (MHDP-A) Phase 1, led by the African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) in partnership with Wellcome, brought together African researchers, data scientists, clinicians, policymakers, innovators and people with lived experience to advance data-driven mental health research and solutions. The initiative focused on addressing critical gaps in understanding and responding to anxiety, depression and psychosis across Africa. Through funding, mentorship, capacity strengthening, data access and collaboration, MHDP-A supported African-led teams to generate evidence and develop innovative approaches to improve mental health research, policy and practice. This video captures the people, partnerships, research, stories and milestones that shaped Phase 1 and highlights the growing movement towards African-led, data-driven mental health solutions.
