Making Dried Bamboo Shoots from Fresh Harvest | Rural Life in Vietnam

Welcome to Trieu Tam Tam! Today, I head into the mountains to harvest large bamboo shoots. The steep hillside makes harvesting quite challenging, especially when trying to break off the bigger shoots. After carefully removing some of the outer layers, I arrange the bamboo shoots in my basket and carry them home. In the afternoon, I visit my cornfield to check on the young corn plants. They are growing well, so I fertilize the soil to provide extra nutrients and help them grow stronger and healthier. The next day, I prepare the freshly harvested bamboo shoots to make traditional dried bamboo shoots. First, I peel and clean them carefully before boiling them thoroughly to make them safe to eat. Once fully cooked, I remove the bamboo shoots from the pot, cut them into smaller pieces, and spread them out under the sun to dry. Sun-drying bamboo shoots is a traditional preservation method that allows them to be stored for a longer time and enjoyed later. Later that afternoon, I harvest fresh mustard greens from my garden. Since I have grown more vegetables than I can eat, I bring the extra greens to the village market to sell, avoiding waste while earning some additional income.
