Seventeen From Five Churches: Pray for Nepal's Believers by the River

Today's Prayer | Nepal - The Church Along the Bhote Koshi As reported by Open Doors, Nepal's National Emergency Operation Centre put the toll from the Bhote Koshi flood that began in Rasuwa at 165 dead and 826 missing. Bodies were recovered far downstream - 65 in Chitwan, 27 in Dhading, 26 in Nawalparasi East, 20 in Gorkha, 12 in Nuwakot, 9 in Tanahun, 5 in Nawalparasi West, 2 in Rasuwa. (These are the figures as reported by Open Doors; official casualty counts have risen since.) 579 tourists are out of contact - 466 foreign and 113 Nepali. So far 104 people have been rescued in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, and an all-party meeting in Kathmandu is coordinating relief. Open Doors says roads, bridges and homes along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers were destroyed, making the affected areas extremely hard to reach. Christian leaders in Trishuli said seven families in the churches they serve were hit. Across five churches in Rasuwa, 17 members are reported missing. A local worker said several riverside families were flooded, and 20 to 25 members working at hydropower sites are missing. Pastor "John" said many lost work and income entirely - most lived on day labour in tunnels, dams, river works and border trade.
