Karam Puja is a major agricultural and harvest festival celebrated by the Adivasi and tea-tribe communities in Assam.
It falls on Bhado Ekadashi (the 11th day of the bright fortnight in the Hindu month of Bhado, which corresponds to August–September).
Devotees worship Karam Devta (the god of youth, strength, and action) and Mother Earth (Parti/Karam Rani) to ensure a rich harvest and family well-being.
Unmarried girls grow mixed seeds (jawa) in small baskets for 7 to 9 days.
The branches are planted in the village center, anointed with milk and rice beer, and worshipped with traditional stories told by the village priest (Pahan)
