Foxfire Museum BLEW us away! We came to the Clayton, Georgia area expecting to spend a little time exploring this unique Appalachian history museum... and nearly THREE HOURS later, we still didn't want to leave!
In this North Georgia adventure, we explore the Foxfire Museum & Heritage Center, where historic log cabins and buildings have been carefully taken apart, moved to the property, and reconstructed. With more than 20 historic buildings to explore, there's so much Appalachian history packed into this beautiful mountain setting.
One of the biggest surprises for us was finding out that Foxfire is pet friendly! Nikki was able to explore right along with us, even inside the historic buildings. 🐾
We visit old cabins, a blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, smokehouse, weaving shop and more. Alli even finds an adorable handmade owl created by a local artist to take home! 🦉
But our North Georgia adventure doesn't end at Foxfire!
We also head up to Black Rock Mountain State Park for some incredible mountain views and check out the campground — although after seeing those steep grades and drop-offs, we're not so sure we'd want to take our Class A motorhome up there! 😳
Then we make our way through Tallulah Falls, where we explore an old-fashioned general store, pick up some locally made goodies, and stop for coffee inside a historic former train depot.
From Appalachian history and mountain views to small-town Georgia charm, this turned into one of those days that reminded us exactly why we love exploring places like this.
👇 Have you ever visited Foxfire Museum? If you have, tell us what you thought! And if you know another North Georgia hidden gem we should explore, leave it in the comments.
