The English-American Trait Test — Do You Have Any of These?

Your English surname can carry more than a name: these five traits said to mark English ancestry run from blue eyes and milk to the Y chromosome, and only one of them can point from Sykes and Ackroyd to a single medieval founder. We test each trait against the genetics, then show what really identifies an English American family: the surname as a map, the church as a decoder, and the path west from Massachusetts, Virginia and Pennsylvania. A DNA test can suggest a region; only records can put a family in an English parish. In 1610, two Englishmen were buried at the altar of the church at Jamestown, and in 2024 their DNA sent researchers back to a court case that explained who one of them really was. The same tension runs through the whole video: Richard III's skeleton matched his mother's line perfectly and broke on his father's, and the Quakers carried a name that began as a magistrate's sneer in Derby in 1650.
