Hofmann House | The Art of Privacy

What if a house could embrace the landscape without giving up its privacy? Set within a lush Mediterranean landscape in Valencia, Spain, Hofmann House by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos explores a delicate balance between openness, privacy and the experience of living. The project begins with a simple yet powerful idea: to create a home that feels connected to the sea, the garden and the changing light, while remaining sheltered from its surroundings. Its architecture unfolds through three carefully composed elements: an elongated T-shaped roof, an independent central core that organizes the interior, and a stone base that follows the natural slope of the site. Together, these elements shape a fluid relationship between indoor and outdoor living. The main living area extends toward the garden beneath the deep roof overhang, while the more private spaces are arranged in the quieter part of the landscape. An accessible rooftop offers a different perspective, opening views across the plot and toward the distant sea. Climate and privacy are integral to the design. The roof moderates the southern sunlight, providing shade in summer while allowing the winter sun to enter. Rather than treating the landscape as a backdrop, the architecture makes it an essential part of everyday life. Hofmann House demonstrates how clarity of form, thoughtful spatial organization and a sensitive response to place can create a home that feels both protected and expansive.
