Every five minutes brings another perfectly reasonable excuse to stay. At last, he finds his coat, reaches the door and prepares to escape. Then somebody shouts: “One fer the road?” By the time he finally gets outside, the birds are singing, the shops are opening, and his quick drink has become a twelve-hour Irish pub adventure. Even worse, he somehow arrives home carrying a barstool.
