I have Astilbes in both the front and back yard. Those in the back yard are in shadier locations where soil is moist. The two in the front need to be watered quite often to keep them happy. Also, the location that they were in is getting tighter with the Hydrangea next to them getting to full size. I have transplanted one of them 2 weeks ago. Now, the second one will get a division plus a transplant. Placing them behind the 2 Aucuba plants, where some Creeping Jenny ground cover used to be. Spring and Fall are best time for transplanting most plants. These Astilbe will be left alone for them to root out a bit before the final cut back before winter. Home garden in western Canada zone 7.
