How much money do you actually need to retire? Ask ten people and you'll get ten useless answers — a million, five million, "as much as possible," "it depends." That fog is why most people panic or just avoid the question entirely. But retirement isn't a mystery. It's a math problem — and for most people, the real number is smaller and more reachable than the scary headlines claim.
In this video we calculate YOUR number, step by step: why you don't need a giant pile to drain (you need a "machine" that pays you forever), the famous 4% rule and the 25x multiplier it hands you, why your number is driven by your spending — not your income, the two adjustments most people miss (retirement spending is usually lower, and you subtract Social Security and other guaranteed income before you multiply — which can cut your number in half), the honest caveats on the 4% rule, and why compounding — not your salary — does most of the heavy lifting if you start early.
The formula, in one line: (annual spending − guaranteed income) × 25, plus a margin of safety = your number.
📌 Is your number bigger or smaller than you feared? And how old were you when someone finally explained the 4% rule to you — if anyone ever did? Tell me in the comments.
