This video traces the butterfly effect running through Avatar: The Last Airbender, following how the friendship between Roku and Sozin, Aang's disappearance, Zuko's scar, and Zhao's siege of the Northern Water Tribe all chain into a hundred year war. The story is told in order, beginning with two boys who shared a birthday in a Fire Nation training yard and ending in a ruined throne room where the Avatar State breaks open. Each section takes one turning point and holds it long enough to show how the next one grows out of it, from a hair ornament given at a parting to a scroll found in a buried library. The narration moves at a slow, even pace and is built so you can drift off at any point without losing the thread. It draws on episodes including "The Storm" and the siege of the Northern Water Tribe. What's covered in this video: Roku and Sozin are born on the same day and celebrate their birthdays together as boys, with Sozin winning most of their firebending sparring matches. On their sixteenth birthday the Fire Sages reveal Roku is the Avatar, and Sozin gives him the crown prince's royal hair ornament because Roku can carry no possessions into his training. Sozin proposes sharing Fire Nation prosperity beyond its borders at a celebration, Roku insists the four nations stay separate, and the disagreement goes underground. Roku and his dragon Fang discover secret Fire Nation colonies inside the Earth Kingdom, leading to the throne room confrontation, Sozin's strike from behind, and the mercy that leaves twenty five years of silence. Katara and Sokka break open the iceberg and find Aang and Appa, and Aang admits he does not know how he survived. Prince Zuko sees the pillar of light from his ship and calls the Avatar a coward, a charge an old fisherman later repeats to Aang's face. Aang's nightmare calling for Monk Gyatso resolves into the day the Southern Air Temple monks decided to separate them, and the running away that accidentally saved his life. Zuko refuses to alter course before the storm and says the crew's safety does not matter, prompting his Lieutenant to call him a spoiled prince while Iroh defuses it with noodles. The war council flashback shows Zuko defending the forty first division's twenty thousand recruits, the Agni Kai with Fire Lord Ozai, and the scar given as a lesson. Admiral Zhao imagines the history books while Iroh reminds him of his failure at Ba Sing Se, and Chief Arnook prays to the Ocean and Moon Spirits. Yue tells Sokka she must marry Hahn out of duty, and Hahn is put in command of the infiltration mission Sokka joins. Zhao reveals the hidden library he found under General Shu, and Koh the Face Stealer names the koi fish in the Spirit Oasis as Tui and La.
