Blade Runner (1982): The Happy Ending Was Made From The Shining's Leftover Footage

In 1982, Blade Runner ended with a drive through open mountain country, in daylight. Ridley Scott did not film those mountains. A helicopter crew working for Stanley Kubrick did, for the opening of The Shining. This is the story of how that happened, in 20 parts: the book that really gave the film its name, the author who never saw it, the replicant who was cast and then written out, the future built on Humphrey Bogart's old street, the speech Rutger Hauer reworked the night before, the soundtrack held back for twelve years, the voice Harrison Ford did not want to record, and the rough cut shown to a paying audience by mistake. 00:00 The ending Ridley Scott did not film 00:33 20 — The title comes from a different book 01:22 19 — Philip K.
