We Found a FREE Motor for Our $100 Boat! | 1964 Sears Restoration #9
In Part 9 of our 1964 Sears boat restoration, we're making some big decisions, changing our minds, and revealing the FREE vintage outboard motor that's going to power this little boat!
We start by building the seat bases and cutting openings for the new stereo speakers. I even make fiberglass covers for the seat bases... only to decide I don't like them! So, into the trash they go, and we start over. This time, I round the corners of the seat bases to match the exact curves of the original dashboard, creating a much cleaner, more cohesive design.
Then Roxy joins me to reveal a BIG decision about the future of this boat. Are we going with a traditional gasoline outboard, or are we going ELECTRIC?
ELECTRIC IT IS!
We're also excited to announce that Vatrer Power has come aboard as a sponsor of this project! They've supplied us with an impressive 48V 105Ah lithium battery, complete with a charger and a 10-year warranty. This battery will be the heart of our new electric propulsion system.

And now for the really fun part...
My friend Mike, up in Minnesota, spotted an old outboard motor sitting alongside the road with a handwritten sign that simply said FREE.
It turned out to be a 1959 Evinrude Lark 35HP outboard! And believe it or not, this old motor might be exactly what we need.
We're going to remove the original gasoline powerhead and replace it with an electric motor, combining classic 1950s outboard styling with modern electric propulsion. If everything works as planned, we'll have a completely unique vintage electric outboard for our $100 Sears boat!
Finally, we finish building all the seat bases and backrest structures, getting everything ready for the next stage: upholstery!
There's still a long way to go, but this little boat is really starting to come together.
Thanks for following along with our restoration adventure!
