How far would you go to survive—and what would you tell yourself afterward?
Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s Rashomon is a dark Japanese short story about survival and the fragile boundaries of morality. A dismissed servant shelters beneath a ruined gate, uncertain how he will survive. An encounter with an elderly woman challenges his sense of right and wrong, exposing how desperation can become an excuse for cruelty.
It is easy to judge from a safe distance. This story asks what happens when that distance disappears.
