Beyond the Canvas | Art Documentary | Alamgir Kabir

Beyond the Canvas follows Alamgir Kabir, a Bangladeshi artist and teacher who has spent over three decades nurturing a love of art in his students. The film traces his journey from childhood through his development as an artist, exploring how his family’s unwavering support shaped both his creative vision and his commitment to teaching. At the center of the film is Different Strokes, the art organization Kabir founded, which has become a creative home for aspiring artists in Bangladesh. Woven through his personal story is a broader reflection on the state of art in Bangladesh, a country whose rich cultural tradition exists in tension with limited institutional support and public recognition for visual arts. Directed and edited by Zayn Shafique. Assistant directed by Bayan Shafique. Special thanks to Alamgir Kabir and Prova Rahman.
