New York Jazz Hot Dixieland Night at the Roundtable 🔥 October, 1959 2 Hours    • New York Jazz – Hot Dixieland Night at the...   Hot New Orleans dixieland jazz from a real night in 1959 New York. Two hours of brass, banjo and swing for working, relaxing, cooking or a late-night drive. 🎺 Tuesday night, October 6, 1959. East 50th Street, Midtown Manhattan. The Dukes of Dixieland, the New Orleans family band led by the Assunto brothers, open a new run at the Roundtable. Frank is on trumpet, Fred on trombone, and their father Papa Jac plays a second trombone and a banjo. It's an elegant East Side supper club with white tablecloths, low lights and seven musicians on one small bandstand. Two years earlier, this band had appeared on the very first stereo record. Tonight, the brass hits the room from both sides. That same week, Miles Davis was burning at Birdland, Charles Mingus held court at the Half Note, and the Philadelphia Orchestra opened its Carnegie Hall season that very night. 🎷 What you'll hear: Hot dixieland, New Orleans jazz, tailgate trombone, trumpet leads, clarinet, banjo and tuba two-beat. The set runs from doors-open energy to a last-call encore. 🗽 New York Jazz & Ink Retrospective recreates real nights from 1950s–60s New York in watercolor and sound.
