The English monarchy is one of the oldest and most fascinating systems of rule in Europe. Its history begins long before Buckingham Palace, Crown Jewels and royal ceremonies. It leads back to Anglo-Saxon kingdoms, Viking attacks, Norman conquerors, bloody civil wars, religious upheavals and the slow transformation from powerful royalty to modern constitutional monarchy. In this video, we follow the evolution of the English crown from the early rulers of the island, through Alfred the Great, William the Conqueror, the Plantagenets, the Magna Carta, the Wars of the Roses, the Tudors, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, the Stuarts, the English Civil War, the Glorious Revolution, Queen Victoria and the British Empire, to Elizabeth II and Charles III. It is not only about kings and queens, but also about power, religion, war, betrayal, reforms, dynastic crises and the question of why the monarchy has survived to this day despite revolutions, scandals and social change. Which English queen or king do you think has shaped history the most? Feel free to write it in the comments.
