Written by Arkajyoti Chakrabarty, “Offside Goal” is a story about football, corruption, financial hardship, and the importance of sportsmanship. Nicola Petit, a renowned French sports journalist, visits Kolkata with his Bengali girlfriend, Rohini Das, to experience Durga Puja. While there, he watches the Federation Cup and becomes deeply impressed by Aniket Basu, a talented footballer playing for Cerulean Sports. Aniket's brilliant performance helps his team reach the final, but Cerulean Sports unexpectedly loses the final to Bengaluru Lions by 5–0. Suspecting match-fixing, Nicola investigates the matter and discovers that Aniket deliberately underperformed because Bengaluru Lions had promised him a lucrative contract and an opportunity to play in Europe. However, Aniket's decision was driven by desperation. His widowed mother needed expensive heart surgery, and he was struggling with debts related to her treatment. Understanding his circumstances, Nicola and Rohini offer to help pay for his mother's medical treatment and arrange an opportunity for him to play football in Europe. In return, Aniket promises never to sacrifice his sporting integrity for money again. Eventually, Aniket rejects Bengaluru Lions' contract and moves to Europe with his mother. He begins playing successfully for a Portuguese football club, with the possibility of representing India in the future.
