Once a 20th-century municipal slaughterhouse, this industrial landmark in Campanhã is being transformed by Kengo Kuma + OODA into the Porto Cultural Center. This video was filmed during the Open Day 2025, when the site temporarily opened to the public before its official inauguration planned for 2026. Visitors could explore the main hall, side rooms, and courtyards while the building is still under construction — offering a rare glimpse of Porto’s architectural future. Inside the vast nave, the scale reflects both its industrial heritage and its cultural ambition. The design preserves historic structures while adding contemporary elements, creating spaces for exhibitions, performances, studios, and community activities. As part of the Open Day program, the Matadouro hosted the exhibition by Gustavo Ludgero — Four Decades of Work, where paintings, installations, and sculptures echoed the raw textures of the building itself. This fusion of art and architecture highlights how Porto reinvents its heritage through culture. The future Matadouro Cultural Center will be a hub connecting local communities with global artists, placing Campanhã firmly on the cultural map.
