Q&A Immigrating to New Zealand: Visa Pathways, Networking & Where to Stay Ep10

Can you find a New Zealand job while living overseas? Should you visit to build connections? And is it better to book temporary accommodation or secure a rental before you arrive? In this live Q&A, Brett Corlett is joined by licensed immigration adviser Desire Lindeque from MIS to discuss the decisions worth working through before committing to your move. Des explains why a job offer alone doesn't answer every immigration question, and why understanding your visa pathway, family's options, and potential route to residency should come first. They also discuss researching living costs and deciding whether New Zealand is the right fit for your family. The conversation explores networking from overseas through LinkedIn, arranging coffee meetings before a visit, and getting involved in local communities once you arrive. Brett shares his hiring perspective on IT roles and why opportunities can differ between junior applicants and those with specialised experience. Des also introduces her new consultancy, Migrant Immigration Services, and discusses the first steps overseas-qualified nurses should consider for registration. To close, Brett shares how his family's pre-arranged rental became uninhabitable just before their flight—and why he recommends temporary accommodation while exploring neighbourhoods, schools, and longer-term rentals. If you're planning your move, this episode offers practical insights to help you prepare, build connections, and avoid costly assumptions. Recorded live on 2 October 2026.
