I’m Proud of the Woman I Became 🤎
For a long time, I looked back at my life and only saw the things I should’ve done differently.
I should’ve left sooner.
I should’ve listened the first time.
I should’ve said no.
I should’ve worried less.
I should’ve chosen myself.
But eventually, I looked at that same life and saw something different.
I saw a woman who survived.
A woman who lost people she loved and somehow kept living.
A woman who made mistakes and got wiser.
A woman who lost herself—and eventually came back looking for herself.
And instead of criticizing her, I finally said:
“Baby… I’m proud of you.”
🎶 “I’m Proud of the Woman I Became” by Grandma Nellie Mae is a Southern R&B/soul anthem for every woman who has spent so much time healing, growing and trying to become better that she forgot to acknowledge how far she has already come.
This isn’t about celebrating everything that hurt you.
I ain’t celebrating the pain.
I’m celebrating that it didn’t get the final say.
You survived some things you thought would destroy you.
You cried and still got up the next morning.
You loved people who couldn’t love you properly.
You learned boundaries.
You learned that forgiveness doesn’t always require reconciliation.
You stopped explaining every decision that brought you peace.
And maybe most importantly…
you learned to forgive the woman you used to be.
She didn’t know everything you know now.
She was learning.
She was surviving.
She was becoming.
So before you focus on how much farther you have to go, turn around and look at how far you’ve already traveled.

If this song finds you in a season of rebuilding, healing or starting over, put this in the comments:
“I’m not who I used to be, and I’m proud of who I’m becoming.”
Then go find a mirror.
Don’t look for another flaw.
Look into that woman’s eyes.
Think about everything those eyes have cried over. Think about everything that heart has survived. Think about every time she had to start again.
And tell her:
“I’m proud of you.”
Not because you got everything right.
Not because you never fell apart.
But because somehow…
you kept going.
And baby, if nobody has told you lately:
Grandma Nellie Mae is proud of you too. 🤎
Keep healing.
Keep living.
Keep becoming.
