Chapter 33 – The Empty Throne
VII. A Throne Carved From Waiting
No hand ever carved this seat.
The wind took one grain at a time,
and the years kept their patience.
Waiting made it a throne.
Under a night sky full of stars, with no moon, a great grey boulder stands alone on a hilltop. On its face, the wind has worn a smooth, pale hollow in the shape of a seat, with a flat bottom and a gently curved back, while the rest of the rock stays rough and cracked. There are no tool marks and no straight edges, only the work of countless years. Fine pale sand has drifted into a soft pile at its foot, and thin streaks of sand lie across the ground, with the dry grass bent all the same way. A single fire burns in an iron basket nearby, warming one side of the stone in orange light. No one carved this seat. It was made by waiting.
⚔️ Patience carves what no blade can.
Grain by grain, the wind made a seat.
A throne is only a place that waited long enough.
