Looking into Legacy the 6th Set, scheduled for January 29, 2027. It introduces Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover/Zaun, Freljord and Bilgewater, with a stronger emphasis on each region having its own identity. Riot also describes the set as draft-focused and is releasing new Champion Decks alongside it.
Will 2-player become the next big competitive Format?
It already is a competitive format. Current community discussion describes competitive Riftbound as 1v1, and tournament rules explicitly support competitive Best-of-1 and Best-of-3 structures.
And the Set 3/Unleashed meta already has a clear competitive tier structure, with decks such as Diana, Master Yi and Irelia sitting at the top of the July 2026 tier list.
With Master Yi's PG legend already taking the Ban Hammer.
So I wouldn't expect Legacy to suddenly make 2-player competitive. Rather, 2-player is the format that competitive Riftbound is already built around.
And if you're considering buying into Riftbound specifically for Legacy, I'd wait for the Legacy Champion Decks/previews before deciding which deck to build, because the set doesn't release until January 2027.
