Correction: At 4:50 I mention that Satoshi Tajiri grew up in Nagasaki, and that is wrong. It was Ken Sugimori who spent part of his childhood in Nagasaki, and I had a small mix-up when writing the script. Still, Ken is the one who's credited with designing Rhydon.
Pokémon has never shied away from politics, even if it's in a child friendly way - the human cost of war, the dangers of fascism, it's all there. But there is no political flag stronger in this solarpunk utopia than environmentalism and the importance of protecting nature.
But if that's the case - why can I eat Toedscools and Slowpoketails? That's what I investigate today, in my latest excuse to scavenge through my favourite Pokémon blogs.
