How does Fendt automatically distribute power to deliver traction, stability and performance without operator intervention?
In this video, David Hillman, Fendt Product Manager, explains Fendt VarioDrive, an innovative transmission technology designed to automatically distribute torque between the front and rear axles based on operating conditions. Built on Fendt's proven Vario continuously variable transmission (CVT) platform, VarioDrive helps deliver power where it is needed most while reducing the need for manual operator input.
Whether you're working in changing field conditions, transporting equipment between sites or looking for a tractor that helps maximise available traction, this walkthrough explores one of the key technologies behind Fendt's approach to efficiency, performance and operator comfort.
What you'll learn
✅ What the Fendt VarioDrive transmission is
✅ How torque is distributed between the front and rear axles
✅ How VarioDrive delivers true all-wheel-drive functionality
✅ How the system responds automatically to changing conditions
✅ Benefits for traction, operator comfort and productivity
✅ How VarioDrive helps reduce driver workload
VarioDrive builds on Fendt's continuously variable transmission technology by incorporating two hydro motors that independently deliver power to the front and rear axles. This allows the tractor to intelligently distribute torque based on available traction, helping maintain performance as conditions change across the paddock.
As David explains, when rear-wheel traction decreases, the system automatically transfers more power to the front axle. Once conditions improve, power distribution is adjusted accordingly without requiring the operator to manually engage or disengage four-wheel drive. This helps provide a stable and efficient transfer of power while reducing the need for constant operator input.
One of the key benefits of VarioDrive is reduced driver workload. By automatically reacting to changing traction conditions, operators can focus more on the task at hand while the tractor manages torque distribution in the background. This not only improves ease of operation but can also help reduce operator fatigue during long working days.
As Fendt Product Manager, David Hillman provides practical insight into how VarioDrive works and why it has become one of Fendt's defining drivetrain technologies, helping operators get the most from their tractor in a wide range of operating conditions.
