It received its world premiere on June 30, 2024 with the Aspen Festival Orchestra during the AMFS's 75th Anniversary Season. A note from the composer: "It was an honor and a pleasure to be asked by Renée Fleming for a set of orchestral songs, continuing in the tradition of Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs. Renée and I had a lovely time thinking through the list, which included many more choices than were feasible. I have chosen a hymn, a lullaby, and a complex story-song. The form begins with the voice singing the tune in a straightforward way, followed by different orchestral colors taking up the melody while the singer comments and descants in dialogue with their parts.
