Donna Adelson murder case. Donna Adelson, age 75, has been in Leon County jail since December 2023. Her trial began on 8/19/2025. She was arrested 11/13/2023 at the Miami airport trying to go to Vietnam with her husband Harvey Adelson (a retired dentist) via Dubai, one week after their son Charlie Adelson was convicted of the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel. Dan Markel was divorced from Donna's daughter Wendi Adelson in fall 2013, and they had 2 young sons together. Wendi tried to move away with the children to south Florida, where her parents and brother Charlie lived, but Judge Barbara Hobbs denied her motion to relocate with prejudice. Markel was shot by hitman Sigfredo Garcia on July 18, 2014. The day after Markel's memorial service, the Adelsons drove off from Tallahassee down to South Florida, with Wendi allegedly claiming she was scared to be in Tallahassee. She changed the children's last name to Adelson, claiming that she was concerned about their safety and the media publicity.
