Zwischentöne - "The House Knows Your Name" is a dark cinematic gothic duet about a secret card room, impossible wagers and the truth that no player can hide forever. Behind the mirrors of the midnight fair, a velvet door appears where no entrance should be. There is no sign. No music. No sound except cards sliding across the table. Inside, six strangers sit beneath the candlelight. No one plays for money. One player offers a memory. Another places a forgotten promise beside the deck. Someone else wagers the life they might have lived. At the centre of the room sits the Dealer. He wears black gloves. He knows every road his guests once refused to take. And before the first card falls, he already knows their names. “The house knows your name before the first card falls.” A woman enters the room hoping to win back the path she abandoned years ago. She wants another life. Another choice. Another version of herself. But the cards reveal something more dangerous than fate. The past cannot be returned. Only the fear that still controls the present can be placed on the table. Built around dark piano, low cello, pizzicato violas, contrabass, bass clarinet, muted French horns, restrained pipe organ, timpani, deep orchestral drums and a spectral mixed choir, the song moves with elegant, hypnotic tension. “The past will never change its hand. But you may leave the game.” The House Knows Your Name is about the choices we revisit, the identities we hide and the moment we stop trying to recover the person we once might have become. Some games are played for fortune. Some are played for memory. And some are played for the right to walk away with your own name. Dark, elegant, mysterious and deeply cinematic. Lyrics: Behind the mirrors of the fair, where every clock stood still, I found a room without a sign beneath the northern hill. No music crossed the velvet door. Only cards against the floor. Six strangers sat around the table, silent, pale and still. A silver key lay before one hand, another held a will. No coins were stacked beside the cards. No glasses touched the light. Each player brought one hidden thing they could not face by night. At the centre sat the Dealer, black gloves folded like a prayer. He turned one empty chair toward me. He already knew why I was there. The candles leaned. The shadows came. He touched the deck and spoke my name. The house knows your name before the first card falls. It knows the road you left behind, the truth behind the walls. No gold lies on the table. No mask survives the game. You may win back what you came for— but the house knows your name. We do not play for silver here. We do not play for crowns. Each hand reveals the life you chose and every road turned down. The queen will wear the face you hide. The king will speak your doubt. The joker keeps the doorway wide— but only truth gets out. Choose one memory you would reclaim. Choose one wound you would erase. Then place beside the final card what you will give to take its place. The house knows your name before the first card falls. It knows the road you left behind, the truth behind the walls. No gold lies on the table. No mask survives the game. You may win back what you came for— but the house knows your name. I came to win the life I lost, the door I would not take. I came to find the woman one decision failed to make. But no card held her waiting face. No hand returned the years. So I placed one final wager down: the life I built from fear. The house can take a memory. The house can take a crown. But fear surrendered willingly can never hold you down. Turn the final card yourself. Let no one choose your way. The past will never change its hand. But you may leave the game. Turn the heart. Turn the key. Turn the face you feared to see. Lay it down. Speak it plain. Nothing true is played in vain. The final card lay white as snow, with neither suit nor sign. Then slowly, underneath my hand, one word appeared— mine. The house knew my name before the final card. It knew the life I came to claim was never locked or barred. No prize lay on the table. No past returned the same. I did not win the road behind me— I walked out with my name. The house knew my name. The house had known all night. But when I crossed the velvet door, the morning knew me too. At dawn, the room had disappeared. Only one card remained inside my hand. The house remembers every player. And I remembered me.
