A3.2 Classification & Cladistics (HL) | IB Biology
Welcome to Parsons Biology!
In this lesson we explore A3.2 Classification & Cladistics from the IB Biology syllabus.
We'll investigate how modern biological classification reflects evolutionary relationships, exploring why organisms are classified and how genetic evidence has transformed taxonomy. You'll discover how cladistics groups organisms according to common ancestry, learn how scientists construct and interpret cladograms, and investigate how DNA, protein and ribosomal RNA sequences have reshaped our understanding of the tree of life. Higher Level students will also explore molecular clocks, the principle of parsimony, and the evidence supporting the three-domain classification system.
By the end of this lesson, you should be confident with the key understandings, applications and skills required by the IB Biology course.
