Always-in-season Farm: Scalable Agroecology Producing Food All Year in Kenya

Can agroecology be scaled beyond kitchen gardens? In this video, EcoFrontline Africa visits a thriving agroecology farm in Bungoma County, Kenya, where farmer Obed Anguche is proving that sustainable farming, regenerative agriculture, organic food production, and climate-smart agriculture can produce food all year round on a larger scale. Unlike neighboring monoculture maize farms dependent on synthetic fertilizers and chemical pesticides, Obed’s two-acre agroecology farm is filled with crop diversity, including open-pollinated maize, pumpkins, vegetables, sorghum, beans, sweet potatoes, cassava and arrowroots. Through compost manure, farmyard manure, cover crops, natural pest control, and soil regeneration practices, the farm remains productive throughout the year. This is a powerful example of how agroecology in Africa can strengthen food security, improve soil health, enhance biodiversity, build climate resilience, and reduce dependence on expensive farm inputs.
