This documentary by EMMRC Kolkata staffer Moasunep Kichu deals with the village organization and administrative system of the Ao tribe in Nagaland. Every village has at least two village gates; these are generally kept open except during an emergency. Bamboos, woods and palm leaves are the main ingredients to construct a traditional house. The log drum plays an important role in their daily lives. It is beaten to give information to the people during emergency and celebration. The village administration for Chungli group is Putu menden and for Mongsen group is Shamen menjen. Ariju and Tsuki are the learning institutes for men and women. However the Ariju and Tsuki are abandoned nowadays, as people prefer learning through modern education. The introduction of Dobashi and later Gaonbura brought about a great transformation in Ao society. If the dispute cannot be settled by the village councilors, it is brought before the court of magistrate.
