Assad talks Syrian war, West's double standards, human rights abuses | Dateline Archives

Following a rapid rebel offensive, five decades of the Assad family rule has ended. In 2016, SBS became the first Australian broadcaster to secure an exclusive interview with Syria's president Bashar al-Assad. In it, the now-deposed leader of the war-torn country said the solution to the conflict was clear – a dialogue – yet impossible because of outside interference. He also denied his responsibility for widespread human rights violations documented by international organisations.
