The 1977 Toyota Celica GT Liftback is FINALLY starting to feel like a real car again!
In this episode of Messer's Garage, we're making some serious progress on the 1977 Toyota Celica GT restomod project with its Lexus SC400 chassis swap and 1UZ-FE V8!
This time, we're tackling some major custom metal fabrication in the rear of the Celica. There's plenty of cutting, grinding, welding, and good old-fashioned garage problem-solving as I work to bring the Toyota Celica body and Lexus SC400 chassis together into one solid machine.
In this episode:
Fabricating and welding in a brand-new custom trunk floor
Cutting and fitting sheet metal to rebuild the rear interior
Welding the Lexus SC400 rear wheel wells to the Celica's interior body panels
Cutting out the trunk floor to accommodate the fuel cell and fuel lines
More custom fabrication, MIG welding, and metalworking
Taking another big step toward making this crazy V8 Celica swap a reality!
When I started this project, it felt like an endless pile of parts, cut-up sheet metal, and questionable decisions. But with every piece of metal welded into place, this 1977 Toyota Celica is becoming more and more like an actual vehicle.
There's still a LONG way to go, but seeing the rear end finally come together is a huge motivation boost!
For those new to the channel, I'm taking a classic 1977 Toyota Celica GT Liftback and combining it with a Lexus SC400 chassis and Toyota 1UZ-FE V8 engine. The goal is to create a one-of-a-kind, V8-powered Japanese classic with plenty of custom fabrication and a whole lot of personality.
Messer's Garage is all about building cool stuff, figuring things out as we go, making mistakes, and having fun along the way. From classic car builds and engine swaps to custom guitars and whatever other projects I get myself into, there's always something happening in the garage!
QUESTION OF THE DAY:
If you were building a custom V8-swapped Celica, would you keep the trunk looking as factory as possible, or go all-out with exposed fabrication and a race-inspired fuel cell setup?
Let me know in the comments! I love hearing your ideas and suggestions.
If you're enjoying the build, LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE to Messer's Garage! Every bit of support helps keep this project moving forward.
Thanks for watching, and I'll see you in the next one!
