But Queen West has a much older story. The street we know today as Queen Street West began as Lot Street around 1800, forming an important east-west route along the northern edge of early York. As Toronto expanded westward, the area around Queen Street developed from rural and military lands into a busy urban neighbourhood. � City of Toronto +1 Near Trinity Bellwoods Park, the history becomes even more interesting. The area was once connected to Garrison Creek, an important waterway that historically flowed through what is now Trinity Bellwoods Park before eventually being buried and filled in during the late 19th century. � City of Toronto Today, Queen Street West is known for its pedestrian-friendly streetscape, independent businesses, restaurants, cafés, art, shopping and vibrant street life.
