I leave Imabari and continue across Shikoku towards Shikokuchuo. After visiting Imabari Castle, the day starts with beautiful mountain views, cherry blossoms and an unexpected meeting with other touring cyclists. But then something starts to feel wrong with my bike. Several spokes on my rear wheel have become loose, and when I stop at a bicycle shop, I get some really bad news: the problem is much more serious than I thought. There are several cracks in the rear rim, and there is no guarantee the wheel will make it much farther. With thousands of kilometers still ahead before Sapporo, I now have to figure out how to keep this journey going. Join me for another day of cycling across Japan — this time with a little more uncertainty than I would have liked.
