A 2-Day S2000 Road Trip to Kusatsu | Onsen, Touge & Hidden Japan

What begins as a simple drive takes an unexpected turn over Usui Pass before we arrive in the atmospheric streets of Kusatsu Onsen. The next morning, we set out before sunrise to drive the Shiga-Kusatsu Road and reach Japan’s highest point on a national highway at 2,172 meters. Along the way, we explore a historic abandoned station, drive through the cabbage fields of Tsumagoi, stop for lunch in Karuizawa, and return home over the 184 corners of Usui Pass.
