For several days leading up to Indra Jatra, I spent time around Basantapur Durbar Square in Kathmandu, witnessing, exploring, and documenting the preparations and atmosphere of one of Nepal’s most important cultural festivals. This is more than just a festival vlog. In this video, I take you along on a journey through the streets, courtyards, temples, traditions, people, and preparations surrounding Indra Jatra. I visited Basantapur repeatedly from three days before the main festival day until Indra Jatra itself, giving me the opportunity to see how the historic heart of Kathmandu slowly transformed as the celebration approached. I explored different aspects of the festival, observed the traditional preparations, captured the atmosphere of Basantapur, and experienced the living culture of Kathmandu up close. Then came the main day — Indra Jatra itself. Even though it rained throughout the day, the celebration continued, and I had the opportunity to witness and document these beautiful traditions in the rain. For me, this was not simply an opportunity to make a video. It was a chance to experience our culture directly and preserve a small part of what makes Kathmandu and Nepal so special. The traditions, rituals, music, costumes, deities, chariots, temples, architecture, and the people who continue these traditions from generation to generation are all part of a living heritage. Through this vlog, I want to share that experience naturally — not only showing the main celebration, but also showing the journey before it, the preparations, the surroundings, and the feeling of being there among the people. Indra Jatra is deeply connected with the cultural identity of Kathmandu Valley. It brings together history, religion, art, community, and celebration in the historic streets of Kathmandu. Standing there and watching these traditions continue, especially in the rain, reminded me how valuable our cultural heritage is and why it deserves to be experienced, respected, and preserved. This video is my personal experience of exploring Basantapur and experiencing Indra Jatra — our culture, our heritage, and a tradition that has continued through generations. Come with me and explore Indra Jatra from the days of preparation to the main celebration in the heart of Kathmandu. Our Culture. Our Heritage. Our Indra Jatra. ❤️🇳🇵 #IndraJatra #Basantapur #Kathmandu #Nepal #NepalCulture #NewarCulture #KathmanduValley #NepalHeritage #IndraJatraVlog #HeartOfNepal
